Unam Bokkies Tournament Victory - New Era

New Era (Windhoek)
Namibia: UNAM Bokkies Clinch Victory in Tisan Games

Carlos Kambaekwa

19 August 2008

Windhoek — The University of Namibia (Unam) women's football team, fondly known as Unam Bokkies, clinched victory in the four-day Tertiary Institute Sports Association of Namibia (Tisan) Games at the Unam Sports Ground south-west of Windhoek, yesterday.

A solitary strike by leading goal scorer Loide Komeya propelled the enterprising Unam outfit to a 1-Nil victory over a gutsy Windhoek College of Education (WCE) in an otherwise entertaining match.

The fired-up Unam side brushed aside their opponents unbeaten, with ease en route to the final of the seven team tournament that produced goals galore.

Komeya netted her team's only goal in the opening match against a stubborn Rundu College and went on to beat Ongongo Agriculture College by 3 goals to Nil with Komeya netting a hat-trick.

The girls from the capital stepped up a gear in their next match by thrashing an out of sorts Caprivi College of Education (CCE) 6-0 in a one-sided match that saw Komeya pushing her goal tally to eight after rattling the opposition's net on five occasions.

However, Unam was made to sweat all the way in their semifinal clash against the uncompromising Polytechnic of Namibia (PoN) before emerging 4-3 winners after a tense penalty shootout following a 1-all stalemate to book a date against cross-town neighbours WCE.

Komeya walked away with the Golden Boot Award after the 19-year old striker netted 10 goals in the four-day tourney, while her teammate Magdalena Paulus returned the compliment by being voted the best player of the tournament. The 21-year old second year Adult Education student put up a faultless display that earned her accolades from her colleagues and opposition.

Ambitious MTC Southern Stream Division One campaigners Monitronic Success College put behind them the disappointment of narrowly missing out on promotion to the country's elite league when the "Clever Boys" saw off Polytechnic of Namibia by 2 goals without a reply in the final of the men's division in a fast-paced match at the Unam sports field, near Windhoek yesterday.

The star-studded Monitronic outfit is coached by former Brave Warriors' goalkeeper Danzyl Bruwer alongside the much-travelled young mentor Woody Jacobs, with Orlando Pirates' talented centre back Mark Isaacs amongst those with Premier League experience.

Loide 'Spagetti' Komeya

One of the finest prepadotory strikers to be produced from Unam. Populary known as Spagetti (not sure where the name come from) she has won several accolades as top goal scorer.Spagetti topped the goal scoring chats last season with 7 goals though she would have scored more.

In 2007 she was the top goal scorer for the Tisan tournament with 10 goals in 5 games. She is a wonderful finisher blessed with pace, a sublime skill, an abrupt change in direction and accuracy. Loide is introvertic but when it comes to scoring she is not shy. The good thing is there is still a lot of room to improve as a striker and a lot of potential that has to be harnessed.
